Mechanical seal The seal is a special type of mechanical seal. They are also known by other names. Life Seal, Floating Seal, Duo-con Seal, Toric Seal, and heavy equipment seals. There are two types of  mechanical face seals  / heavy duty seals: In both types, two identical metal seal rings are mounted on two separate housings facing each other on the wrapped seals. The metal ring is centered within the housing by an elastomeric element. Half of the mechanical face seal is fixed to the housing and the other half is rotated with the counterface.
